Vice Minister Gao Yan Attends the Conference of Entrepreneurs and Financiers of China-Portuguese-Speaking Countries and Delivers a Speech

  

On October 12, Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Yan attended the Conference of Entrepreneurs and Financiers of China-Portuguese-Speaking Countries and made a speech.

Gao Yan pointed out that, the Ministerial Conferences of China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Forum has been held for 5 times, and ever since it was first held, China and Portuguese-speaking countries have joined hands and cooperated to combat difficulties and challenges, and further deepened economic and trade cooperation in different fields through the mechanism of China-Portuguese-speaking countries Forum. Firstly, China and Portuguese-speaking started to have closer trade relationship. In 2013-2015, the trade volume between China and Portuguese-speaking countries surpassed US$ 360 billion. China is several Portuguese-speaking countries’ largest trade partner in Asia, such as Portugal and Cape Verde. China has become Brazil’s largest trade partner for 7 consecutive years. Secondly, the investment and cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries boasted many highlights. Up to the end of 2015, China’s various investments in the Portuguese-speaking countries were almost US$ 50 billion. China is one of the important sources of foreign investment of Portuguese-speaking countries like Portugal and Mozambique. Thirdly, the cooperation patterns between China and Portuguese-speaking countries became diversified. The enterprises of China and Portuguese-speaking countries innovated their cooperation patterns in several fields like electric power and insurance, and realized mutual benefit and win-win result through tripartite cooperation and even multi-cooperation.

Gao put forward three suggestions on further deepening economic and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and implementing consensus reached by the leaders.

Firstly, deepen bilateral trade and investment cooperation on the basis of enterprises cooperation. China and Portuguese-speaking countries enjoyed obviously complementary advantages and broad cooperation space. She hoped that the enterprises from China and Portuguese-speaking countries, taking advantage of the Entrepreneurs’ Union of China and Portuguese-speaking countries set up at the Conference, would generate the power of sustainable development of bilateral trade and investment cooperation.

Secondly, put emphasis on capacity cooperation and financial cooperation and promote the level of economic and trade cooperation. Capacity cooperation is not only an important pattern for China and Portuguese-speaking countries to realize complementary advantages, but also an important measure for the two parties to exploit the third party market jointly. Mature and optimized financial service is an important guarantee for China and Portuguese-speaking countries in the cooperation on infrastructure, equipment manufacturing and trade on investment commodities. She hoped that the entrepreneurs could take full advantage of related resources, so as to exploit business opportunities consecutively in capacity cooperation and financial cooperation.

Thirdly, Take Macao as the platform to further deepen cooperation in various fields between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. The role of the Service Platform for Business Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries (Macao) is even obvious. Macao enterprises provide more and more high-quality professional services like language, law and finance to the trade, investment and industrial cooperation between China’s mainland and Portuguese-speaking countries. Enterprises from all sides are welcomed to make closer connections and to strengthen cooperation through the Macao platform, which aims to make greater contributions to the economic and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

The Conference also held the signing and inaugurating ceremony of the Entrepreneurs’ Union of China and Portuguese-speaking countries. About 500 representatives attended the conference, including the President of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Jiang Zengwei, officials of related trade promotion organizations of Portuguese-speaking countries, and the entrepreneurs and financers from both China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
